Chapter Fifteen

Anthony

IT WAS MOVING DAY. I couldn’t remember a time when I had been this excited. I felt like a kid on Christmas. I was giddy and anxious, hoping it would hurry up and be time. I had to remind myself the arrangement was purely professional and platonic. It meant nothing. I was getting excited over nothing. I had tried to stay busy, but it always ended up with me pacing and checking the time repeatedly.

I was elated to have someone around, even if she wasn’t technically living in my house. At least she was close and maybe we could hang out, have dinner, go swimming, and whatever else might happen. I had been feeling all alone a lot lately. I was looking forward to having someone around. The kiss we had shared had been spectacular. I had barely managed to stop myself from pushing her against the wall and burying myself deep inside her.

I couldn’t do that. I was her boss. I was only thinking like that because it had been a while for me. She was intoxicating. Every little thing about her intrigued me. I wanted to get to know her better on every level, which was a little different for me. That had to be why I was so drawn to her. I couldn’t remember the last time I had met a woman and wanted to actually know about her favorite food or favorite color. She was different.

I picked up my phone to call Morgan. He’d be a good distraction.

“Hey,” I said in greeting when he answered the phone.

“What’s up? Are you out buying that yacht we talked about?” he joked.

“Ha, not yet, but you will be with me when I do.”

“Are you in town for the weekend?” he asked.

“I am.”

“Well, that’s a first. Are you doing anything special on your weekend off?”

“No, not really,” I said, hesitating about telling him about the new living situation.

“Want to go out for a drink? I have a client meeting and then I’m bidding on an office remodel, but I’m free after that,” he said.

“I’ll let you know,” I said hesitantly.

He was quiet for a second. “What’s going on?”

Morgan knew me way too well for me to try and hide anything from him.

“My assistant is moving into the guesthouse,” I announced.

“Uh, say what?”

I laughed. “She was in a pretty rough living situation and I have that guesthouse just sitting back there, so I asked her if she wanted to stay in it for a while.”

“Wow, that’s fast.”

“It isn’t like that. It is purely professional.”

“Then why are you turning me down for drinks tonight? Sounds to me like you are keeping your options open.” He laughed.

“I don’t want to be rude on her first night here, just in case she needs something,” I reasoned.

“Like your body?”

I laughed. “Not exactly what I was thinking, but you know what I mean.”

“Do I? Are you planning on checking out her wrists?”

“Ha, not funny. On a more serious note, do you think I’m crazy?” I asked him.
